We have written this document to be readable. If something is unclear, ask before relying on it.
1. Who is responsible
LercheTTS, an independently operated service based in the United Kingdom, is normally the controller of personal information processed to provide Lerche. A Discord server owner or organisation may have separate responsibilities for how it configures and uses Lerche.
Privacy questions and rights requests can be submitted privately through Lerche’s official support community. We may ask for proportionate evidence that you control the relevant Discord account or server.
2. Information we process
Lerche does not intentionally record microphones or Discord voice conversations. It generates audio from eligible text. Do not submit confidential, financial, authentication, medical or other sensitive information for TTS.
Discord account and membership information may include:
- Discord user ID, username, global and server display names, avatar URL and bot status
- server membership, relevant timestamps and role IDs or names used for access control
Server and configuration information may include:
- server ID and name, owner ID, channel and voice-channel IDs, and installation or removal dates
- TTS channel, room-prefix, voice, reply, timeout, permission and command settings
- message counts, character or token usage, quotas and related service totals
When a message is eligible for TTS, we may process:
- message ID, raw message text and a cleaned or transformed spoken version
- author, server, text-channel and voice-channel identifiers, mode and timestamp
- the selected synthetic voice and audio returned by the configured speech provider
Support and technical information may include:
- support correspondence, reports, evidence and identifiers you provide
- request times, error details, security events, IP addresses and device information processed by hosting or infrastructure providers
3. Where information comes from
Information comes from you, Discord’s API, the server in which Lerche operates, server administrators, configured service providers and operational or security logs.
4. Purposes and lawful bases
Our legitimate interests include providing a useful and reliable service, controlling costs, protecting users and third parties, preventing misuse and enforcing service rules. We balance those interests against the nature of the information and its effect on individuals.
- providing requested TTS, commands and configuration — performance of our agreement and legitimate interests
- applying permissions, queues, quotas and cost controls — performance of our agreement and legitimate interests
- maintaining reliability, diagnosing errors and supporting users — legitimate interests
- preventing spam, fraud, illegal use and security incidents — legitimate interests and legal obligations
- investigating reports and enforcing the Terms — legitimate interests and legal obligations
- responding to privacy requests and maintaining required records — legal obligations and legitimate interests
- establishing, exercising or defending legal claims — legitimate interests
5. AI speech processing
Eligible text, the selected voice identifier and technical request information are sent to the speech provider configured for the server. The provider returns synthetic audio for playback in Discord.
A provider may process inputs or outputs for service delivery, security, moderation, troubleshooting or improvement under its own terms, privacy notices and our contractual arrangement. Server settings and provider availability may change over time.
7. International transfers
Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK transfer rules apply, we use an available lawful mechanism such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to standard contractual clauses, or another permitted safeguard.
8. Retention
We keep personal information only while it remains reasonably necessary for the purposes described here. The period depends on whether a server remains active, whether the record is required for current functionality, support or abuse prevention, whether deletion has been requested, and whether law or an active dispute requires preservation.
Generated audio is intended for immediate playback and is not routinely kept by Lerche as a permanent audio library. Message-level operational records are reviewed for deletion or de-identification when no longer needed. Server settings and membership records are normally kept while the server uses Lerche and removed or de-identified after removal, subject to limited security, legal and backup retention.
Providers may retain information independently under their published policies. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures such as restricted administrative access, provider access controls, encryption in transit, secret management, updates and monitoring. No online service is completely secure, which is another reason not to send sensitive information through TTS.
If a personal-data breach creates a legally reportable risk, we will notify affected individuals, Discord, the Information Commissioner’s Office or another authority where required.
10. Your rights
Submit a private request through the official support community and include your Discord user ID and relevant server ID. Some information may be retained where law permits or requires it.
UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, although we would appreciate the opportunity to address the concern first.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to:
- be informed and obtain access to personal information
- correct inaccurate information
- request deletion or restriction
- object to processing based on legitimate interests
- receive certain information in a portable format
- withdraw consent where consent is the lawful basis
- complain to a data-protection supervisory authority
11. Children
The hosted Lerche service is intended for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly provide it to children. Contact us if you believe a child’s information has been processed so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
12. Automated rules
Automated rules may reject messages, apply quotas or flag suspected misuse. They are not intended to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects. A materially affected user may request a moderation review through support.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Lerche’s features, providers or legal duties change. The updated date identifies the current version, and material changes will be communicated where reasonably practicable.
Use the official support community linked below for privacy enquiries, rights requests, security reports or abuse concerns. Send sensitive details privately rather than posting them in a public Discord channel.
